February 10: DAY OF REMEMBRANCE

"However, we must repeat strongly that everywhere within the Italian people
as in relations between peoples, the reconciliation,
strongly that we want is the truth.
And what of the 'Remembrance Day' is precisely a solemn commitment ;
of restoring the truth. "
Giorgio Napolitano
Italian President

HISTORICAL NOTE:
"The sinkholes karst caves are of natural origin with an entrance overhang. Istria is in those chasms that between 1943 and 1947 are thrown, dead and alive, almost ten thousand Italians.

The first wave of violence exploded immediately after the signing of the armistice of 8 September 1943: Istria and Dalmatia in the communist Slavs have their revenge against the Italians did not communists. Torture, massacred, starved and then thrown into ravines around a thousand people. Them as "enemies of the people." But the violence increases in the spring of 1945, when Yugoslavia occupies Trieste, Gorizia and Istria. Marshal Tito's troops are unleashed against the Italians. A fall into the sinkholes are fascist, Catholic, liberal democrats, socialists, clergymen, women, elderly and children.

Remembrance Day is celebrated in Italy on Feb. 10, in memory of victims of sinkholes and genocide committed by the Italian anti-Yugoslav and Julian-Dalmatian exodus. "
